Operations and maintenance for roads and bridges year-round

Roads and bridges need to work when people are commuting, freight needs to move and changing weather quickly alters the conditions. NYAB delivers operations, maintenance and repairs across Sweden and Finland, helping keep roads safe and accessible year-round, in demanding Nordic climates.

Silta ja järvi taustalla

Before commuters start their day, before freight needs to move, and before the roads fill with traffic, the work has already been underway for hours. Snow has been cleared. Surfaces secured. Risks managed.

It is work that rarely gets noticed – until it is not done.

Conditions can change quickly in our projects, often in environments where the climate demands constant readiness and the ability to adapt. Circumstances shift. Wear builds up over time. This is where planning meets reality, and where our work makes the difference, creating stability in something that is always changing.

READY EVERY DAY

Every season brings different demands.

Operations and maintenance is a year-round responsibility. In winter, delivery depends on readiness, response times and fast action. During the bare-ground season, ongoing maintenance ensures that the road network, equipment and surrounding environment continue to function as intended. The work also includes planned and condition-based measures, along with continuous inspections and follow-up to ensure performance over time.

When we take on an assignment, we work with the client to establish a clear delivery structure: priorities, readiness, follow-up routines and the measures required for stable performance throughout the contract period.

Delivery is carried out within defined maintenance areas, where requirements for function, accessibility and road safety must be maintained continuously.

READINESS IN PRACTICE

The right action at the right time.

Our approach is designed for assignments where delivery must work every day.
In practice, this means:

  • Planning based on requirements and real-world conditions: Resources and measures are planned according to contract requirements, seasonality and local conditions.
  • Readiness and capacity to act: Organisation and resources are in place to handle deviations and urgent events quickly.
  • Systematic inspections and control: The network is monitored through regular inspections and continuous follow-up.
  • Documentation and transparency: Completed work is documented and reported in line with the client’s needs and requirements.
  • On-the-ground presence in delivery: We build local teams that create continuity and a deep understanding of the assignment.
  • Safety in focus: Work is planned and carried out with consideration for both road users and the working environment, in every activity.
