NYAB builds and maintains railways with full responsibility and where projects can range from smaller standalone interventions to complex, multidisciplinary investment projects. Our operations include complete earthworks, railway works, and civil structures, both within the track and in track-adjacent environments. We deliver complete railway works, covering track construction, electrification, signalling and telecommunications systems (commonly referred to as BEST in Sweden).
We primarily work with track and switch replacements, new switch installations, as well as upgrades and capacity-enhancing measures. In addition, we deliver bridge and tunnel works, and develop platforms and surrounding areas, including pedestrian and cycling paths as well as green spaces.
Our strength lies in our ability to deliver everything from smaller, single-discipline projects to large, complex, multidisciplinary contracts. In railway projects, complexity is not always defined by size, but by the conditions, such as access, traffic impact, timing, and ground conditions.

TRAMWAYS
Tramways connecting the city.
NYAB also has the expertise in delivering tramway projects. The market in Sweden is relatively limited, though we have relevant experience in this area as well. NYAB is currently acting, together with its partner Azvi in a joint venture, as the main contractor in the city of Uppsala’s major urban development project involving a completely new tramway.

Major upgrade of the Silverhöjden Line, increasing capacity for both freight and passenger traffic.
BEST works on the North Bothnia Line
Construction of the railway infrastructure between Umeå and Dåva as the first BEST phase on the North Bothnia Line, bringing together multiple disciplines to create a reliable and future-proof railway.
17 km of new tramway
NYAB and Azvi is the turnkey contractor for the Uppsala Tramway system, 17 km of double track and 22 stops delivered in a collaborative model.
